Ray Dooley brings to the studio and the PlayMakers Repertory Company stage more than 40 years of professional acting experience that has spanned film, television, and stages national and international, with extensive work in the plays of Shakespeare, Moli\u00e8re, and Chekhov.  He won a Village Voice OBIE Award for Distinguished Performance in Peer Gynt at CSC Repertory Company and played Malcolm in Nicol Williamson\u2019s Macbeth at Circle in the Square.  Major regional theatres include Yale Repertory Theatre<\/a>; Hartford Stage Company<\/a>; Seattle Repertory Theatre<\/a>; The Huntington Theatre<\/a>, Boston; Alliance Theatre<\/a>, Atlanta; The Folger Theatre<\/a>; Center Stage<\/a>, Baltimore; and the American Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford, Connecticut.  In Canada he appeared at the Citadel Theatre, Edmonton, and at Vienna\u2019s English Theatre played Father Flynn in the European premiere of Doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill<\/a> Professor Dooley teaches Acting in the Professional Actor Training Program, and has taught numerous acting and dramatic literature courses for undergraduates.  As a company member with PlayMakers Repertory Company, the professional theatre in residence at UNC Chapel Hill, Ray has appeared in more than 90 productions since 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At UNC: in 1999 Professor Dooley was named Interim Chair of the Department of Dramatic Art and became Chair in 2000 for a five-year term. He has served as Head of MFA Acting since 2005. He has served on the Administrative Board of the College of Arts and Sciences, UNC\u2019s Committee on Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure, and the Provost\u2019s Academic Plan Committee, among many other committees and boards. In 2004 he served as Chair of the Council of Department Chairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ray is a member of Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, and the National Alliance of Acting Teachers.  He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater, and was graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College with a double major in English and Theatre & Drama.  In 2014 he was awarded the C.
