She was raised in Sweden, resides in Minneapolis, MN, and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Her work is produced nationally and internationally to critical acclaim.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Her play <i>Love Person<\/i>, a four-part love story in Sanskrit, ASL and English, was developed during a Many Voices residency at the Playwrights&#8217; Center, work-shopped at the Lark Play Development Center in NY, and selected for reading at the National New Play Network (NNPN) conference 2006. Love Person was produced in a NNPN rolling world premiere at <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedblood.com\/\">Mixed Blood Theatre<\/a> (MN), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marintheatre.org\/\">Marin Theater<\/a> (CA), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenixtheatre.org\/\">Phoenix Theatre<\/a> (IN), in the 2007\/08 season. In 2008\/09 it was produced at Live Girls! Theatre in Seattle, Alley Repertory Theatre in Boise, and Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago. <i>Love Person<\/i> received the Stavis Playwriting Award in 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Her play <i>Agnes Under The Big Top, a tall tale<\/i> was selected as a 2009 Distinguished New Play Development Project by the NEA New Play Development Program hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arenastage.org\/\">Arena Stage<\/a>, and was developed by the Lark Play Development Center (NY), <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedblood.com\/\">Mixed Blood Theatre <\/a>(MN), InterAct Theatre (PA), the Playwrights&#8217; Center (MN), and the Rhodope International Theater Laboratory (Bulgaria). <i>Agnes Under the Big Top<\/i> premiered at Mixed Blood Theatre and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longwharf.org\/\">Long Wharf Theatre<\/a> (CT) in 2011, and Borderlands Theater (AZ) in 2012 in a NNPN rolling world premiere.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Her Displaced Hindu Gods Trilogy consists of <i>Brahman\/i, a one-hijra stand-up comedy show<\/i>, <i>The Chronicles of Kalki<\/i>, and <i>Shiv<\/i>. The plays, based on the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, premiered in repertory at <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedblood.com\/\">Mixed Blood Theatre<\/a> in October 2013, and have since been produced across the US and in the UK. <i>Brahman\/i<\/i> and <i>The Chronicles of Kalki<\/i> received an unprecedented double nomination for the James Tait Black Prize, University of Edinburgh, UK.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">In the 2016\/2017 season Kapil premieres <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scr.org\/\">SouthCoast Repertory<\/a> (SCR) commissioned play <i>Orange<\/i> at <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedblood.com\/\">Mixed Blood Theatre<\/a> and at SCR, and Yale commissioned play <i>Imogen Says Nothing<\/i> at Yale Repertory Theatre. In addition, she is working on commissions with La Jolla Playhouse and Oregon Shakespeare Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">She is the Playwright-in-Residence at <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedblood.com\/\">Mixed Blood Theatre<\/a>, an Artistic Associate at Park Square Theatre, a Core Writer at the Playwrights\u2019 Center in Minneapolis, and a Resident Playwright at New Dramatists.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click here to listen to her interview.
