Tofteland)<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\"> I haue bin studying, how to compare<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">This Prison where I liue, vnto the World:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And for because the world is populous,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And heere is not a Creature, but my selfe,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">I cannot do it: yet Ile hammer&#8217;t out.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">My Braine, Ile proue the Female to my Soule,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">My Soule, the Father: and these two beget<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">A generation of still breeding Thoughts;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And these same Thoughts, people this Little World<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">In humors, like the people of this world,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">For no thought is contented. The better sort,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">As thoughts of things Diuine, are intermixt<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">With scruples, and do set the Faith it selfe<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Against the Faith: as thus: Come litle ones: &amp; then again,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">It is as hard to come, as for a Camell<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">To thred the posterne of a Needles eye.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Thoughts tending to Ambition, they do plot<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Vnlikely wonders; how these vaine weake nailes<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">May teare a passage through the Flinty ribbes<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Of this hard world, my ragged prison walles:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And for they cannot, dye in their owne pride.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Thoughts tending to Content, flatter themselues,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">That they are not the first of Fortunes slaues,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Nor shall not be the last. Like silly Beggars,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Who sitting in the Stockes, refuge their shame<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">That many haue, and others must sit there;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And in this Thought, they finde a kind of ease,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Bearing their owne misfortune on the backe<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Of such as haue before indur&#8217;d the like.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Thus play I in one Prison, many people,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And none contented. Sometimes am I King;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Then Treason makes me wish my selfe a Beggar,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And so I am. Then crushing penurie,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Perswades me, I was better when a King:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Then am I king&#8217;d againe: and by and by,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Thinke that I am vn-king&#8217;d by <i>Bullingbrooke,<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And straight am nothing. But what ere I am, <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>Musick<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Nor I, nor any man, that but man is,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">With nothing shall be pleas&#8217;d, till he be eas&#8217;d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">With being nothing. Musicke do I heare?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Ha, ha? keepe time: How sowre sweet Musicke is,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">When Time is broke, and no Proportion kept?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">So is it in the Musicke of mens liues:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">And heere haue I the daintinesse of eare,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">To heare time broke in a disorder&#8217;d string:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">But for the Concord of my State and Time,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Had not an eare to heare my true Time broke.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">I wasted Time, and now doth Time waste me:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">For now hath Time made me his numbring clocke;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">My Thoughts, are minutes; and with Sighes they iarre,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Their watches on vnto mine eyes, the outward Watch,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Whereto my finger, like a Dialls point,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Is pointing still, in cleansing them from teares.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Now sir, the sound that tels what houre it is,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Are clamorous groanes, that strike vpon my heart,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Which is the bell: so Sighes, and Teares, and Grones,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Shew Minutes, Houres, and Times: but my Time<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Runs poasting on, in <i>Bullingbrookes<\/i> proud ioy,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">While I stand fooling heere, his iacke o&#8217;th&#8217; Clocke.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">This Musicke mads me, let it sound no more,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">For though it haue holpe madmen to their wits,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">In me it seemes, it will make wise-men mad:<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Yet blessing on his heart that giues it me;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">For &#8217;tis a signe of loue, and loue to <i>Richard,<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Is a strange Brooch, in this all-hating world.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard II \u00a0\u00a0Act 5, Scene 5 \u00a0Richard II (This text is featured in our interview with Curt L.
