Jeff Watkins, President and Artistic Director of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company:

Jeff Watkins studied theater with Paul Baker at Trinity University where, in 1978 he received his degree in Theater and Mass Communications. After training and working throughout the United States and Europe, Watkins settled in Atlanta, GA. In 1984, he became Artistic Director of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company. Since that time, he has grown what was once only a single rack of costumes and a typewriter, into one of the most prolific Shakespeare repertory companies in the country. In August of 1995, he became the first American actor to perform on the stage of Shakespeare’s Globe in London, England. Also, under his leadership, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company built America’s only Shakespeare Tavern® and in March 2011 became the only American Shakespeare company to have performed all 39 plays currently ascribed to William Shakespeare (the 36 First Folio plays, Pericles, Prince of Tyre, Edward III and The Two Noble Kinsmen). Watkins is an internationally known leader in the Original Practice movement in Shakespeare production and is the current President-elect of the international Shakespeare Theatre Association.
Also, Jeff has always made his living in the arts and has never had a real job.
